Brazil, Ceará: Voltalia, a French renewable energy company, has signed an agreement with National System Operator (ONS) securing 322 MW of grid connection capacity at the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex in Ceará, Brazil.

The project is intended to support the growing electricity needs of data centre developments in the region. The company stated that it aims to position itself as a key partner for digital infrastructure projects, which require both high energy consumption and highly reliable power supply.

Voltalia said it is already in advanced discussions with data centre operators considering investment in Pecém. To serve this demand, the company plans to develop dedicated renewable generation assets, particularly wind power projects, to provide a low-carbon energy supply.

The initiative comes amid increasing interest from global technology firms in locations that can offer large-scale renewable energy capacity alongside strong infrastructure for data processing facilities. In this context, Ceará has become an attractive destination for new investments.

The Pecém Industrial and Port Complex is considered strategically important due to its available expansion areas, strong grid access, and favourable location for international data connectivity. The presence of submarine cable infrastructure also strengthens its appeal for global digital operations.

Voltalia currently operates and is constructing around 3.6 GW of capacity worldwide, with an additional 12 GW in development. The company expects that rising demand for digital services, artificial intelligence and cloud computing will continue to drive investment in energy infrastructure linked to data centres.
