Switzerland, Zürich: ABB has launched its enhanced Proteus portfolio for photovoltaic and battery energy storage system applications, targeting utilities, power producers and renewable energy developers.
The launch comes as new utility-scale renewable electricity generation is creating stronger demand for reliable, high-efficiency power conversion and grid integration solutions. According to the International Energy Agency, utility-scale renewable electricity generation is expected to grow by 60 % over the next four years.
ABB will present the new Proteus solar inverter at Intersolar 2026 in Munich, Germany, from 22 to 25 June.
“The global energy transition requires proven, scalable and reliable power conversion solutions,” said Daniel Gerber, Business Line Manager, Renewable Power at ABB.
The Proteus portfolio includes inverters, stations and control systems designed to deliver efficiency of up to 99.45 %, helping maximise energy yield. ABB said the solutions also provide ultra-clean power output, with THDi below 0.7 %, reducing equipment stress and supporting longer system lifetime.
The new Proteus inverter features optimised airflow management and improved build quality to support long-term performance across different operating environments. Hybrid liquid and air cooling is also used to improve reliability, while the compact architecture is designed to reduce installation complexity, transport costs and on-site assembly requirements.
For BESS applications, the portfolio includes bi-directional converter stations and advanced control systems. Features such as grid-forming and black-start operation are intended to support grid stability, reliability and continuous power supply. The solutions are also battery-agnostic.
ABB has installed more than 120 GW of power conversion capacity to date and operates in more than 70 countries. The Proteus portfolio is designed for a 30-year service life and supported by lifecycle services.
