ACTOM is advancing switchgear design with a focus on reducing environmental impact, particularly by eliminating fluorine-based gases that contribute to global warming. While these gases are stable and inert, they remain a concern for their climate effects.

Rhett Kelly, Design and Development Manager for ACTOM MV Switchgear, highlighted a new compact medium-voltage switchgear panel rated up to 12 kV. The product uses solid-dielectric insulation technology instead of traditional gas-based systems.

The GELPAG MSS-H is described as a modern example of solid insulated switchgear technology, representing a shift away from conventional insulation methods used in the medium-voltage sector.

By removing the need for SF6 gas, the design aims to reduce environmental impact, while also lowering maintenance requirements and decreasing the overall size of the panel.

This development reflects wider industry efforts to improve sustainability in electrical infrastructure through new insulation approaches and more efficient equipment design.
