GE Vernova has launched GridOS for Transmission and published two new AI whitepapers at Orchestrate 2026, the company’s annual grid software conference focused on the future of grid modernisation.
The new GridOS for Transmission platform is designed to provide utilities with a unified software environment for managing transmission networks. By combining near real-time operations, forecasting, capacity monitoring and system stability tools, the solution helps operators make faster decisions, improve the use of existing transmission assets and respond more effectively to changing grid conditions.
The platform brings together intelligence from several core transmission applications, including Advanced Energy Management Systems (AEMS), Digital Dynamic Line Rating (DDLR), Wide-Area Monitoring Systems (WAMS), forecasting tools, distributed energy resource management and asset performance data. This creates a single operating view that supports quicker and more informed decision-making.
Alongside the software launch, GE Vernova released two whitepapers examining the growing role of AI in utility operations.
The first, focused on autonomous distribution technologies, explores how AI can help utilities identify, isolate and restore faults in seconds while improving resilience and efficiency across increasingly decentralised power systems.
The second paper looks at the use of AI in grid planning. It highlights applications such as interconnection analysis, forecasting, risk management, wildfire and vegetation monitoring, storm preparedness and digital grid twins to support long-term planning and lower costs.
