Switzerland, Zürich: Hitachi Energy has introduced EcoSpace™, a new digital sustainability platform designed to measure and visualise the environmental impact of power grid projects. The launch took place at WindEurope in Madrid and forms part of the company’s recently launched HMAX Energy portfolio, an AI-powered suite aimed at supporting critical energy infrastructure.

EcoSpace helps utilities, grid developers and investors make faster, data-driven decisions while improving sustainability reporting. It turns environmental data into practical insights, allowing users to move beyond compliance and treat sustainability as a strategic advantage.

The platform analyses the full lifecycle of power grid systems, from raw materials and logistics through to installation and operation. It provides visual dashboards that show how environmental performance changes across project stages, locations and applications. Users can compare design options, assess carbon impacts instantly, and identify ways to reduce emissions.

As sustainability becomes increasingly important in public tenders and investment decisions, EcoSpace supports the need for transparent and consistent CO₂ reporting across the energy value chain. Its methodology has been endorsed by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), providing added credibility and standardisation.

EcoSpace has already demonstrated results in real-world applications. In collaboration with Statnett, Norway’s transmission system operator, the platform was used on a 420 kV substation project in Oslo. The analysis indicated a potential 20 % reduction in total carbon footprint over a 30-year lifecycle.

The platform is designed to support evolving regulatory requirements while strengthening investor confidence.
