USA: Schneider Electric has unveiled new software updates aimed at helping utilities manage major grid-disrupting events, including hurricanes, wildfires, and severe storms. The announcements were made at DTECH, a US transmission and distribution trade show.
The enhancements build on Schneider’s EcoStruxure ArcFM Web, a web-based GIS tool that gives planning, operations, and emergency teams a shared, accurate view of the network. Updates to EcoStruxure Energy Transmission Operation (ETO) software further improve coordination between transmission and distribution systems, strengthening situational awareness and enterprise-wide operations.
These improvements are integrated into Schneider Electric’s One Digital Grid Platform, which leverages predictive, AI-enabled architecture to help utilities anticipate threats and act faster. The platform supports measures such as Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) and accelerates recovery from outages. It also incorporates insights from partners including Microsoft, AiDASH, and Technosylva to enhance risk modelling and emergency planning.
The software provides predictive risk analysis using live weather data, asset health insights, and vegetation mapping. Automated workflows help trigger inspections, reconfiguration, and dispatch actions, while a digital twin ensures decisions reflect real-time grid conditions. The system also integrates Enterprise Asset Performance Management (EAPM) data to prioritise critical infrastructure during major events.
In parallel, California’s CARB regulations are phasing out new SF₆ switchgear, prompting a shift to AirSeT SF₆‑free GIS technology. Schneider Electric’s solutions combine digital readiness with sustainable, greenhouse-gas-free switchgear to improve resilience and compliance.
Together, these innovations aim to help utilities predict, prepare for, and respond to extreme weather events, modernising grid operations while supporting sustainability and regulatory goals.
