The Netherlands, Amsterdam: Siemens has introduced the latest evolution of its Gridscale X platform, designed to help utilities manage increasingly complex power systems and operate grids closer to their technical limits.
Presented at the Grid Software Summit in Amsterdam, the updated platform provides a shared digital foundation that allows utilities to integrate, run and develop their own applications alongside Siemens and third-party solutions. The platform is intended to support system-wide visibility, digital twin-based operations and more flexible grid management.
Dutch network operator Alliander became the first utility to integrate self-developed applications into Gridscale X. According to Siemens, Alliander expanded medium-voltage grid coverage from 65 % to full coverage, migrated 85 applications to the platform and reduced its IT landscape by 30 %.
Siemens also introduced the next generation of its Gridscale X PSS E transmission planning software, adding AI-powered and agentic capabilities aimed at improving speed, scalability and transparency in transmission studies.
The software supports transmission planning scenarios linked to data centres and large industrial loads, helping operators evaluate and respond to grid connection requests more efficiently. Siemens stated that the redesigned cloud-native interface can reduce response times for connection studies by up to 50 %.
The latest developments reflect growing pressure on utilities as electrification, renewable integration, data centres and AI-related industries continue to increase grid complexity and electricity demand.
