Japan, Tokyo: Toshiba has confirmed the validation of its SF6-free 300 kV switchgear, marking a step forward in the development of more environmentally friendly power equipment.
The company is targeting a commercial launch of the technology by 2028, as part of efforts to move away from sulphur hexafluoride (SF6), a gas commonly used in switchgear but known for its high global warming potential.
The validated system is designed to operate at 300 kV, supporting high-voltage transmission needs while reducing environmental impact. Toshiba’s progress reflects a broader industry shift towards cleaner alternatives in grid infrastructure.
By focusing on SF6-free solutions, the company aims to contribute to more sustainable energy systems, particularly as demand grows for greener technologies in power networks.
Further development and preparation are expected in the lead-up to its planned market introduction.
