Malta: Enemalta has commissioned 47 new substations across Malta in the first nine months of this year, surpassing its full-year target ahead of schedule. The company announced it will continue this pace of investment to strengthen the national electricity network and improve supply reliability.
One of the latest additions is a new substation in Għaxaq, designed to enhance electricity services in the area and neighbouring localities by reducing outages and stabilising voltage levels.
During an inspection visit, Enemalta Executive Chairman Ryan Fava briefed Minister for Energy Miriam Dalli on the company’s progress, noting that the new substations have already delivered measurable improvements in network performance. “These facilities are improving voltage stability in their zones and enabling better integration of renewable sources such as solar panels,” Fava said.
He added that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to reinforce Malta’s electricity distribution system to meet growing demand with resilient, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure.
Additional projects are also underway, including the installation of new medium and high-voltage cables and major upgrades to distribution centres in Naxxar and Siġġiewi.
Minister Dalli praised Enemalta’s progress, highlighting that these investments will ensure higher-quality services for families and businesses while laying the foundation for Malta’s energy transition. “These projects strengthen our grid and prepare us for future challenges, including the full integration of renewable energy,” she said.
