Congo: Eni Congo has announced the launch of a project to refurbish and upgrade the high-voltage transmission network connecting Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville. The initiative is aimed at improving the reliability and performance of the Republic of Congo’s power infrastructure.

The modernisation programme will involve maintenance works at nine key substations along the corridor as well as the overhead high-voltage line. According to the company, these upgrades are expected to strengthen grid stability, expand distribution capacity, and improve access to electricity for both households and businesses.

The project builds on the performance of the Centrale Electrique du Congo (CEC), which currently provides more than 70 % of the country’s electricity. Powered by domestic gas, the plant operates with three turbines and achieves a reliability rate above 98 %, making it a central component of Congo’s low-carbon, high-efficiency energy system.

Andrea Barberi, Managing Director of Eni Congo, said during the launch ceremony that the modernisation effort underscores the company’s long-term commitment to the energy sector. “Thanks to this project, power distribution capacity will be enhanced, grid stability increased, and access to electricity significantly improved,” he said.

He added that the project aligns with broader goals of ensuring secure energy supply, supporting industrial growth, and contributing to local development.
