- Planning: pinpoints infrastructure gaps and prioritises investments using real-world data.
- Access: maps underserved areas to design cost-effective electrification strategies.
- Resilience: models natural disaster impacts to improve emergency response.
- Customer Service: enhances responsiveness by linking complaints to locations.
GIS adapts with new technologies like EVs, distributed energy, and real-time monitoring. It also supports cross-sector collaboration, linking energy with transport, health, and urban development.
To fully benefit, utilities must invest in accurate data, system integration, spatial analysis skills, and inter-agency cooperation. GIS is not just a tool – it is the digital canvas for smarter, more inclusive, and future-ready energy systems.
