India, Maharashtra, Pune: Hyosung Heavy Industries has exported gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) from its Indian subsidiary to Malaysia for the first time, marking a new step in the company’s regional expansion.
Hyosung T&D India recently supplied 132 kV GIS to Malaysia’s national utility, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, for the Amazon Nirai Project. The value of the contract was not disclosed.
Hyosung plans to develop its Pune facility from a production base focused mainly on India into an export hub serving Southeast Asia and other Asian markets.
“This achievement demonstrates the technological capabilities and manufacturing competitiveness of our Indian subsidiary,” a company official said. “It will serve as a foundation for expanding our business in the Asia-Pacific region in the future.”
The Pune plant was established in 2016 and has supplied power equipment to India, South Asia and the Middle East. Hyosung also manufactures GIS at its Changwon facility in South Korea.
According to the company, Hyosung holds approximately 50 % of India’s GIS market, placing it first in the country. Its share of the ultra-high-voltage GIS segment at 800 kV and above exceeds 90 %.
The Malaysian order comes as grid development and data-centre construction continue across Southeast Asia, creating further demand for compact high-voltage equipment.
