China: Jinchang Power Grid, operated by State Grid Jinchang Power Supply Company, has commissioned its first 35 kV mobile substation, enhancing its emergency handling and power supply continuity capabilities.
Delivered to the Qinghe substation, the mobile unit acts as a “rapid response” solution to power failures, planned maintenance, and natural disasters. With a 20 MVA capacity, the substation consists of two vehicles: one carrying a transformer and 35 kV equipment, and the other transporting 10 kV and secondary gear.
Equipped with an intelligent monitoring system and quick-plug interface, the unit can take over load from 35 kV substations and 10 kV switchgear at 110 kV sites. It enables “zero-wait” load transfer, reducing outage times and supporting reliable electricity supply for both residents and industry.
In addition to emergencies, the mobile substation will be deployed during seasonal peak demand and grid upgrades, ensuring uninterrupted supply during the transformation of ageing infrastructure. At the Qinghe site, it will temporarily manage the loads of four 10 kV lines during equipment replacement.
Training and live drills are planned to ensure readiness, with the goal of deploying the substation swiftly and safely whenever required.
