Saudi Arabia, Madinah: Linxon has successfully completed and commissioned the Taibah 380 kV Bulk Supply Point (BSP) substation for Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), strengthening the reliability and capacity of the Madinah power grid. The turnkey project, completed within 21 months, included detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and testing of a 38 kV GIS substation, featuring Hitachi Energy GIS switchgear, a 380 kV reactor, protection and automation systems, and civil works.
The Taibah BSP is crucial for evacuating 3.6 GW from the upcoming Taibah Independent Power Plant (IPP) and connects with IPP-1 and IPP-2 to integrate gas turbine and steam turbine generator feeders. This ensures seamless connectivity with new generation assets and meets future electricity demand in the region.
Hassan Merhi, Managing Director of Linxon AMEA, said, “The successful completion of the Taibah 380 kV Bulk Supply Point underscores Linxon’s engineering expertise and technical capability to deliver complex high-voltage substation projects under demanding timelines. This milestone, achieved through strong collaboration with SEC, reinforces our shared commitment to reliable, sustainable, and future-ready energy solutions in Saudi Arabia.”
This project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s energy transition goals by incorporating gas-turbine localisation and a carbon capture-ready design. By expanding grid capacity, the substation accommodates growing electricity demand and strengthens the resilience of Saudi Arabia’s high-voltage infrastructure.
