Peru: During 2025, Peru made major strides in its power sector with the addition of 424.5 km of new transmission lines and upgrades to several substations, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM). The total investment of $159.1 M aims to reinforce the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) and ensure a reliable supply for growing electricity demand.
Deputy Minister of Electricity Francisco Mendoza highlighted that the projects enhance energy infrastructure, supporting both economic growth and social development across the regions.
Key projects include Red Eléctrica del Perú’s Expansion No. 21, which came online in March 2025. This project added the third 220 kV Chilca – Independencia circuit (168.5 km) and expanded the Chilca and Independencia substations, with an investment of $16 M.
In the north, the 220kV Pariñas – Nueva Tumbes Link (158 km, $50.8 M) began operation in August, followed by the 220 kV La Niña – Piura Nueva Link (96 km, $58. M) in October. Additional works included the Nueva Tumbes Substation and the 60 kV Nueva Tumbes – Tumbes line ($8.4 M), as well as Chilca – Marcona – Montalvo Reinforcement projects (over $25 M).
In September, MINEM awarded contracts for four other transmission projects under the 2023–2032 plan, totalling $214 M, benefiting over 2.2 million people in Arequipa, Lima, Apurímac, and Puno.
MINEM reaffirmed its commitment to continue expanding the nation’s electric transmission infrastructure as a key driver of sustainable development, competitiveness, and the well-being of all Peruvians.
