Germany / USA: SolarEdge and Infineon Technologies have expanded their collaboration to develop solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) technology for high-voltage DC distribution in AI and hyperscale data centres.

The technology targets 800 VDC architectures, where rapid fault isolation is required as power density increases. Unlike conventional electromechanical breakers, the SSCBs are designed to interrupt DC faults within microseconds and without an electrical arc.

SolarEdge is leading the SSCB design, while Infineon will provide silicon carbide JFET technology for the protection devices.

The collaboration extends an existing project involving SolarEdge’s solid-state transformer platform. The SST is designed to convert medium voltage between 13.8kV and 34.5 kV directly to 800–1,500 VDC, linking medium-voltage conversion, DC distribution and protection in a grid-to-rack architecture.
