Austria / USA, Texas: Texas-based VoltaGrid and Austria’s INNIO Group have announced a major collaboration to deliver 2.3 GW of advanced power infrastructure to support some of the world’s largest data centres. The partnership marks INNIO’s largest-ever order, comprising 92 power packs of 25 MW each, and is designed to enable fast, flexible, and sustainable energy supply for AI-driven operations.

Developed around INNIO’s Jenbacher engine technology, the system integrates packaged generator sets, cogeneration, and trigeneration units, providing prime, backup, and peak power through a single, modular platform. The solution maintains full efficiency at ambient temperatures up to 50°C (122°F) and can handle rapid load fluctuations, offering operational resilience in demanding conditions.

The companies emphasise that the solution delivers grid-grade performance with ultra-fast response, zero reliance on batteries, and near-zero criteria air emissions. According to INNIO, it is up to 10 percentage points more efficient than conventional systems, generating potential fuel savings of over $300 M annually across the installed capacity.

Nathan Ough, CEO of VoltaGrid, described the partnership as “a major step toward building the energy infrastructure for the AI era,” while Dr Olaf Berlien, CEO of INNIO Group, called it a “landmark order” underscoring INNIO’s ability to power the AI revolution with smart, high-performance energy systems.

The collaboration also supports VoltaGrid’s partnership with Oracle, which will deploy the 2.3 GW power infrastructure for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s next-generation AI data centres. The system will be delivered through VoltaGrid’s proprietary platform, a modular, high-transient-response solution developed with INNIO Jenbacher and ABB.

Additionally, VoltaGrid has entered into a separate global partnership with Halliburton to develop distributed power generation systems for data centres worldwide, with the initial rollout planned in the Middle East. Under this collaboration, Halliburton will leverage its global operations and regulatory expertise, while VoltaGrid provides engineering design, technology, and procurement capabilities.

These initiatives come amid a sharp increase in data centre energy demand, which is expected to double by 2030, with US data centres alone accounting for nearly half of electricity demand growth in the next five years. As grids face growing constraints, flexible solutions like those developed by VoltaGrid and INNIO are emerging as vital enablers of the digital and AI economy.
