Brazil, Paraná: WEG has implemented two battery energy storage system (BESS) solutions at Agropecuária Larssen, an animal protein producer in western Paraná, Brazil.

The systems were installed at two fertile egg production units and commissioned at the end of May in partnership with system integrator LENZ. They became operational in early June, combining battery storage with photovoltaic generation to improve energy autonomy, reduce costs and strengthen power reliability.

The main installation includes a 300 kW / 645 kWh BSCW400 BESS integrated with a 300-kW solar plant and equipped with a Static Transfer Switch (STS). It is designed for backup supply and peak demand management. A second 100 kW / 215 kWh BESS is used for energy management, storing surplus solar energy for use during higher-tariff periods.

At the main unit, which can produce around 70,000 fertile eggs per day, the system automatically supplies critical loads when grid disturbances or outages occur. The transfer takes about 40 milliseconds, allowing essential equipment such as ventilation and climate control systems to continue operating.

By reducing the need for diesel generator use, the system helps lower operating costs, CO₂ emissions and noise. It also supports more stable production conditions by reducing the risk of interruptions and thermal stress for the birds.

During peak tariff periods, the facility can be supplied entirely by solar energy stored in the batteries, increasing renewable self-consumption. WEG said the project has an estimated payback period of 3.8 years.
