Azerbaijan, Khojaly: A new substation in Khojaly, Azerbaijan, is set to significantly strengthen the power grid across the Karabakh region. With a capacity of 3,200 kVA, the facility will supply stable electricity to newly built residential areas, tourism sites, agricultural zones, and various socio-economic infrastructure projects, according to Mubariz Zarbaliyev, Chief Engineer of Azerishig’s Karabakh Energy Department.
The Khojaly substation, along with a Digital Control Centre, is part of a broader effort to create a more interconnected and reliable energy network. Power lines have been laid from the Khankendi-1 and Asgaran substations, and a 35 kV line currently under construction will connect Khojaly to Aghdam-2, forming a ring circuit between the cities of Aghdam, Asgaran, Khojaly, and Khankendi.
The substation features next-generation digital technologies for real-time monitoring and remote operation, enabling quicker response times and reducing energy losses and operational costs. The system also sends early outage alerts to consumers.
Solar panels with a capacity of 52 kW have been installed at the control center, feeding clean energy back into the grid. The site is also equipped with fast-charging stations for electric vehicles, supporting Azerbaijan’s green energy goals.
President Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the facility on 9 May, marking another step toward modernizing the nation’s energy infrastructure and integrating renewable sources into the regional power system.
