France: Nexans has signed a $690 M (€600 M), seven-year framework agreement with Enedis to supply medium-voltage cables for the modernisation and expansion of France’s electricity network. Deliveries will begin in the first quarter of 2026, with average annual volumes doubling compared to the previous contract.

The contract supports the connection of electric vehicle charging stations, the burial of overhead lines, and the integration of renewable energy parks. Nexans emphasised that its proposal met Enedis’ key priorities: economic performance, security of supply, and environmental responsibility.

Cables will be primarily manufactured at Nexans’ Bourg-en-Bresse site in France, with additional capacity secured at Battipaglia, Italy, strengthening industrial resilience and European supply chain sovereignty. Investments at Bourg-en-Bresse include $17 M (€15 M) to increase production for larger aluminium cross-sections and reinforced direct-burial cables (400 mm² and EDR).

The project highlights Nexans’ focus on low-carbon solutions and circularity, with cables featuring reduced CO₂ emissions and increased use of recycled aluminium and polyethylene. These measures follow Nexans’ ongoing strategy to expand its sustainable product portfolio, building on its 2025 low-voltage aluminium cables with 10% recycled content.

Marco Spinelli, Managing Director of PWR Grid Central Europe at Nexans, said: “This contract strengthens our long-term partnership with Enedis at a crucial moment for electrification in France. By combining economic efficiency, supply security, and environmental standards, we will modernise the network and support the energy transition.”
