UK, England, North Baddesley: ep Group has signed a partnership with smart energy specialist GridBeyond to optimise a 50 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in North Baddesley, UK. The agreement will apply GridBeyond’s artificial intelligence platform to enhance energy trading, decision-making and asset performance, supporting ep Group’s expansion in distributed energy systems.
The initiative builds on ep Group’s recent joint venture with Norwegian power systems and storage company Pixii AS, created to meet rising demand for decentralised, optimised energy technologies across the UK market.
The BESS will be integrated into GridBeyond’s Energy Management System, which uses real-time forecasting, optimisation and market access tools to maximise revenues from battery storage. The platform also aims to extend asset lifetime by forecasting energy prices with greater accuracy, allowing batteries to charge and discharge in alignment with market conditions rather than fixed schedules.
“Our partnership with GridBeyond advances our mission to accelerate the shift to distributed, decarbonised, and digitised energy systems,” said Leo Bedford, Partner at ep Group. “By combining GridBeyond’s optimisation strengths with Pixii’s technology and our delivery capabilities, we can help clients turn energy infrastructure into a strategic asset.”
Scott Berrie, Director of Origination at GridBeyond, added: “This collaboration highlights the role of AI in maximising value from energy storage. By leveraging market-leading forecasting and asset state-of-health capabilities, we can drive flexibility, profitability and support the wider renewable transition.”
