USA, North Carolina: Amazon has announced a $10 B investment in new data centers across North Carolina, reinforcing its commitment to expanding infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI). The move is part of a larger capital expenditure plan of up to $100 B in 2025, with a significant portion allocated to AI-related developments.

As AI demand accelerates globally, Amazon is scaling its cloud capabilities to keep pace with competitors like Microsoft and Google. CEO Andy Jassy described generative AI as a “once-in-a-lifetime business opportunity,” underscoring the strategic importance of such investments.

The North Carolina initiative is expected to generate around 500 new jobs and further solidify Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) presence in the region. “Generative AI is driving increased demand for advanced cloud infrastructure and compute power,” the company noted in a statement, adding that the new AWS data centers will be critical to supporting that future.

This investment follows similar commitments, such as a planned $11 B spend in Georgia for additional cloud and AI infrastructure. Over the past year, Amazon has introduced a range of generative AI products, including proprietary language models, specialized Trainium chips, and a marketplace for third-party models called Bedrock. It has also backed AI startup Anthropic with an $8 B investment.

The company’s strategic focus reflects the broader tech industry trend of prioritizing AI development and infrastructure as core drivers of future growth.
