Germany: Amprion, a German grid operator, has announced plans to invest $40.5 B (€36.4 B) in its transmission network by 2029.
The company is currently managing 800 projects, many of which are entering the construction phase, according to CEO Christoph Mueller. In 2024, Amprion successfully completed 200 km of transmission lines, a new record, and is working on an additional 1,300 km—three times more than the previous year.
Last year, Amprion invested $4.4 B (€4 B) in grid expansion. Despite this growth, Mueller emphasized the need for more flexible grid planning to potentially reduce costs. He proposed reassessing long-term grid expansion projects in the upcoming grid development plan to ensure they are aligned with actual electricity demand, potentially saving billions for grid customers.
Amprion also reported an adjusted net profit of $434 M (€390 M) for 2024, reflecting a 21.2 % year-on-year increase. The company’s revenue rose by 16.7 % to $6.2 B (€5.6 B), signaling strong financial performance alongside its ambitious investment plans.
