Brazil, São Paulo, Paulínia: Hyperscale data centre operator CloudHQ has completed the energisation of its GRU data centre campus in Paulínia, São Paulo, enabling the site to start receiving cloud clients and high-demand AI workloads.
The milestone follows the delivery and electrification of a 440-kV substation on campus, connected to Brazil’s high-voltage transmission network. For the project, CloudHQ partnered with Brazilian engineering firm LZA Engenharia, using equipment supplied by WEG.
The GRU campus has a total network capacity of 1.1 GW. In its first phase, the facility will operate three data centres providing 360 MW of IT load, with each centre capable of 120 MW.
CloudHQ had initially planned to open the first phase by the end of 2024. The company first announced the GRU campus development in February 2023, more than three years ago.
This follows the energisation of CloudHQ’s GIG campus in Rio de Janeiro last August, which supports 36 MW of IT operations in its first phase. In September, the company also contracted 200 MW for a data centre campus in Querétaro, Mexico, with similar capacity to the Paulínia unit.
Headquartered in Washington DC, CloudHQ has committed approximately $7.5 B to its data centre projects across Latin America, strengthening cloud infrastructure and supporting the region’s growing digital demand.
