The UK, England: The installation of the offshore substation for Dogger Bank C, the third and final phase of the world’s largest offshore wind farm under construction, is about to begin in UK waters.
Heerema Marine Contractors will use its massive semi-submersible crane vessel Sleipnir to install both the jacket foundation and topside structure at the Dogger Bank C site. According to a Notice to Mariners, offshore operations will start on 8 May and are expected to continue until 25 May.
In early April, Spanish company Navantia Seanergies completed the load-out of the HVDC substation jacket. The structure was built under a subcontract from Aibel, which was originally contracted in 2019 to supply platforms for Dogger Bank A and B. A third platform for Dogger Bank C was later added to the contract in 2021.
Heerema is also responsible for installing the jacket foundation, main piles, and topside under a contract signed in March 2022.
Progress continues on the first two phases as well. At Dogger Bank A, over half of the turbines are already installed, and Seaway Strashnov recently finished installing monopiles at Dogger Bank B.
The Dogger Bank Wind Farm is a joint venture between SSE Renewables (40 %), Equinor (40 %), and Vårgrønn (20 %).
