USA, Virginia: Two major energy companies, Dominion Energy and American Electric Power, have announced plans to build a high-voltage transmission line connecting substations near Lynchburg and Culpeper. The proposed route, called Valley Link, would stretch approximately 185 km (115 mi) across seven counties.

Analyst Mike Barber says the project will convert over 1,100 ha (2,700 acres) of currently forested or farmed land into utility right-of-way. The transmission structures are expected to reach 41–49 m (135–160 ft) tall, roughly equivalent to a 12-storey building.

Valley Link plans to file for approval from the State Corporation Commission this summer, with a decision expected about a year later. Environmentalists like Barber are urging the public and local politicians to consider the impact on natural resources, open spaces, and private land before construction begins.

Dominion describes the project as an “electric superhighway”, designed to allow additional substations and high-voltage lines in the future. The corridor could also provide opportunities for new data centres and expanded grid connections, benefiting developers looking for power infrastructure.
