USA: Entergy says agreements with major data centre customers will deliver around $5 B in savings for 2.3 million electricity users in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi over the next 20 years. The savings follow regulatory approvals after the company finalised a deal in Mississippi in 2024 and another in Arkansas in December.
According to Drew Marsh, the partnerships with technology companies are designed to protect existing customers while bringing economic growth. He said the agreements are expected to support new jobs, infrastructure improvements and lower-cost electricity in the years ahead.
Since 2024, the Entergy region has attracted several data centre investments. Amazon Web Services announced two campuses in Mississippi in early 2024 and a third in 2025. Meta revealed a facility in Louisiana in late 2024. Other projects include developments from Avaio Digital, Google, and Hut 8.
Together, these initiatives are expected to generate about $47 B in total investment, along with thousands of high-tech jobs, new tax revenue and wider economic benefits for local communities.
Customer savings will come from several factors, including reduced costs for new power generation, lower impacts from grid infrastructure upgrades and smaller residential contributions to future energy projects. Revenue from the new data centres will also help fund improvements to the electricity network without increasing bills for existing users.
Entergy says its agreements require large data centre operators to pay the direct costs of the power they consume while also contributing additional benefits to the wider customer base. State regulators will continue overseeing the projects to ensure reliability and fair cost allocation.
