India, Karnataka: G R Infraprojects Ltd (GRIL) is poised to secure its third interstate transmission system (ISTS) project through the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route. According to a stock exchange filing, GRIL emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for the Transmission scheme for integration of Tumkur‐II REZ in Karnataka. The bidding process was coordinated by REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL).

The project involves significant infrastructure development, including the construction of a 400/220 kV Pooling Station near Tumkur, Karnataka, and a 100 km double-circuit transmission line connecting Tumkur-II to Tumkur (Pavagada). The project is expected to cost approximately INR 793 crore ($94.5 million) and is slated for completion within 24 months following the formal transfer of the project Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Tumkur-II REZ Power Transmission Ltd, to GRIL.

This project is part of a broader initiative aimed at transmitting 17 GW of renewable energy from Karnataka, necessitating the construction of the new Tumkur-II Pooling Station due to the lack of connectivity margins at the existing Tumkur (Pavagada) station.

GRIL’s successful bid marks its third ISTS project win under the TBCB framework. The company previously won the Rajgarh Transmission Ltd project, which was transferred to them in May 2022, and the Pachora Power Transmission Ltd project, acquired in February 2024.
