USA, Pennsylvania, Charleroi: GE Vernova has announced plans to add 250 new jobs at its grid solutions factory in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, over the next two years. The expansion will focus on producing more high voltage switchgear, a critical technology for the safe and reliable operation of the country’s electric grids.
The company will invest up to $100 M across Pennsylvania, creating around 700 new jobs at multiple factories. This effort builds on GE Vernova’s wider $600 M multi-year investment announced earlier this year, which is expected to create a total of 1,750 new jobs across the United States.
“Powering the grid is at the core of powering America’s economy,” said Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova. “These new jobs and investments not only strengthen Pennsylvania’s manufacturing base, but also secure domestic supply chains and improve national energy security.”
Alongside the Charleroi expansion, GE Vernova has secured an order to provide seven of its high–efficiency 7HA.02 natural gas turbines for the Homer City Energy Campus. Once completed in 2027, the facility will generate up to 4.4 GW of electricity to support a large-scale data centre campus, meeting rising energy demand from artificial intelligence and high-performance computing industries.
These projects are part of GE Vernova’s larger global plan to invest $9 B in capital expenditure and R&D by 2028. Currently, the company employs over 18,000 people across 18 US manufacturing sites, with its technologies helping produce more than half of the nation’s electricity.
