Germany: The Jasmund offshore substation topside, built for German transmission system operator 50Hertz, has been unveiled at HSM Offshore Energy’s yard in Stormpolder, Netherlands.
Weighing 5,300 t and measuring 68 x 37 x 21 m, the substation will play a key role in Germany’s offshore wind power expansion. The HSI Consortium—comprising HSM Offshore Energy, Smulders, and Iv-Offshore & Energy—is responsible for its engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning.
The 65 m high steel substructure supports the topside with six legs and skirt piles. It will be installed northeast of Rügen Island, about 100 km off the German coast. The sail-away is set for late 2025, with commissioning expected by mid-2026.
Germany’s Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) approved the 300 MW grid connection in January 2024, linking the Windanker offshore wind farm to the national grid. Future operator Iberdrola will oversee the 21 Siemens Gamesa 15 MW wind turbines in the German EEZ of the Baltic Sea.
