Hyderabad, also known as “Cyberabad”, is set to see a significant improvement in its power supply reliability. The Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) has announced plans to construct additional substations in the Rangareddy district, aiming to minimise power outages and enhance the quality of electricity supply.

The expansion project includes the construction of five new 33/11 kV substations in key areas of the district. These substations will be strategically located in Gandipet, Narsingi, Kokapet, Puppalguda, and Manikonda. Each substation will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology to ensure efficient power distribution and quick response to any potential issues.

The primary objective of this infrastructure upgrade is to reduce the load on existing substations, which are currently operating at or near capacity. By distributing the load across more substations, the power distribution company aims to improve the overall stability of the power grid and reduce the frequency of power cuts.

One of the key benefits of this expansion will be the reduction in transmission losses. Transmission losses decrease with substations closer to end-users. This not only improves efficiency but also saves cost in the long run.

Moreover, the new substations will be equipped with advanced monitoring and control systems. These systems will allow for real-time tracking of power consumption patterns and quick identification of any faults in the network. This proactive approach to maintenance is expected to significantly reduce the duration of power outages.

The TSSPDCL has also emphasised that this expansion is part of a larger plan to modernise the power infrastructure across the region. As Hyderabad continues to grow as a major IT and business hub, the demand for reliable power supply has never been higher.

Local authorities have welcomed this initiative, recognising its potential to attract more businesses to the area and boost economic development. Residents, too, are looking forward to a more stable power supply, especially during the peak summer months.

As the project moves forward, the TSSPDCL has assured that all necessary environmental and safety standards will be adhered to during the construction and operation of these new substations. The company is also planning to conduct awareness programmes for local communities about the benefits of these new installations and safety measures around electrical infrastructure.

With these new substations, Hyderabad is taking a significant step towards a more reliable and efficient power distribution system, setting an example for other rapidly growing urban areas in India.
