Iran, Zanjan: Iran’s first fully integrated solar power substation was unveiled on 28 May  at the Substation Development Company of Iran Transfo in Zanjan. This all-in-one system includes an inverter, transformer, low- and medium-voltage switchgear, and protective equipment, streamlining solar project installation and reducing reliance on foreign components.

Engineered entirely by local specialists, the system addresses key challenges in solar plant construction, such as complexity and high costs associated with installing separate components. By merging energy conversion, control, protection, and transmission elements into a pre-designed compact unit, the integrated substation simplifies deployment, optimises space, and improves efficiency.

The substations can operate as standalone units connected to the medium-voltage grid or be configured in modular setups to connect multiple plants to a central station.

Mehdi Sadeghi, CEO of Iran Transfo Industrial Group, emphasised that the system marks a significant advancement in local renewable energy capabilities and currency savings. Iran Transfo, active for 58 years and now fully localised, accounts for 33 % of the country’s renewable capacity and has reached up to 95 % savings in substation and DC box production.

The company announced readiness to supply systems for a 1,000 MW solar power plant and expects to meet the growing demand for transformers in new renewable projects. Sadeghi invited investors to collaborate and leverage Iran Transfo’s consulting and production capabilities.
