Končar to build Zagreb bus hub
The new Podsused terminal will charge 124 electric buses around the clock, marking a major step forward in modernising Zagreb’s public transport system.

Croatia, Zagreb: Končar has been chosen to build a large electric bus charging terminal in Zagreb, a project that will play an important role in the city’s move towards cleaner public transport. Once completed, the facility will allow 124 electric buses to charge 24 hours a day, supporting the growing electrification of the capital’s bus fleet.
The contract signed with the City of Zagreb runs for ten months. The selection decision was made in early November, while the agreement was officially signed on 29 December. The total value of the contract is $9.16 M (€7.85 M) excluding VAT, which is well below the originally estimated procurement value of more than $24.5 M (€21 M).
Končar will deliver the project together with subcontractors, including its subsidiary Končar – Digital, as well as the German company TSG and its Croatian branch. Funding is provided with support from the Ministry of Economy through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Within this framework, over $24.5 M (€21 M) in non-refundable funds has been secured for the ZET charging facility. After completion, the terminal in Podsused will be the largest of its kind in Croatia.
Construction is expected to finish by the end of the year. During the works, the Podsused bus depot must remain fully operational to avoid any disruption to public transport services.
Electric buses are already common in many European cities, and this investment will help Zagreb keep pace with capitals such as Berlin, Vienna and Rome. Although several other bids were submitted, Končar was selected as the most economically favourable option.
The terminal will use Končar’s AC and DC chargers, offering flexible, efficient and scalable charging solutions for electric buses.
