India: India’s power infrastructure saw a strong start to FY26, with 13,440 MVA of new substation capacity added in April 2025, driven by major contributions from both public and private sectors.

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) led public efforts with three 765 / 400 kV substations, totaling 6,000 MVA, including projects at Khavda (Gujarat) and Fatehgarh (Uttar Pradesh) under ISTS-TBCB schemes aimed at evacuating renewable power.

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) delivered 4,160 MVA, marking the entire private sector contribution. Key additions included 1,160 MVA at Rajasthan’s Sangod GIS substation and 3,000 MVA at Khavda Pooling Station-1 (KPS1) in Gujarat. The latter is now fully commissioned after a March addition and a completed double-circuit transmission line.

At the state level, Tamil Nadu led with the highest intrastate additions, followed by Telangana, Punjab, and Haryana. In total, 4,440 MVA was added on the intrastate side, while 9,000 MVA was on the interstate grid.

As of April 30, 2025, India’s total transformation capacity (220 kV and above) reached 1,350,953 MVA, marking 7.8 % year-on-year growth, with interstate systems expanding faster than intrastate networks.
