USA, Massachusetts, Boston: According to energy provider Eversource, around 28,000 customers lost electricity service due to an issue at a substation in Andrews Square. This substation supplies power primarily to neighborhoods in South Boston.
The power outage happened in the afternoon of 14 May, with nearly 50 separate outage incidents reported across the city.
Eversource released a statement at 3:52 p.m., indicating that power had already been restored to a majority of affected homes and businesses. The company anticipated that remaining service would be reinstated within the next 30 minutes.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., Eversource confirmed that the necessary repairs at the substation had been completed, and power had been fully restored to all impacted customers.
Local officials have not yet provided further details on what caused the failure at the substation, and it remains unclear if additional steps will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The temporary outage disrupted both residential and commercial activity in South Boston but was resolved without extended delays.
