The Philippines, Manila: The Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, has energised its new ASEANA Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation in Parañaque City, supporting the growing energy needs of key business centres in the southern part of Metro Manila.
The 115 kV – 34.5 kV smart substation, part of Meralco’s strategic infrastructure development, is designed to serve major commercial and residential developments in the ASEANA City area. The project includes an 83 MVA power transformer, GIS switchgears, a 14.4 MVAr capacitor bank, a 1.2-ohm neutral reactor, and an advanced protection and control system housed in a dedicated GIS building.
The facility also reduces system losses by an estimated 373,392 kWh, which will result in cost savings for consumers. Additionally, the substation eases the load on existing transformer banks and provides greater switching flexibility in case of outages.
Equipped with automation and remote monitoring capabilities, the smart substation enhances Meralco’s network reliability and operational efficiency. It will support power supply to several key establishments.
“This project plays a key role in improving system reliability and serving the dynamic power requirements of our customers,” said Froilan J. Savet, Meralco First Vice President and Head of Networks.
The ASEANA substation is part of Meralco’s broader commitment to building a more resilient, future-ready grid infrastructure.
