USA, Arkansas: North Arkansas Electric Cooperative energized its Galatia Substation and transmission line in the Norfork area on January 20. The substation is now serving 750 member accounts on 85 miles of distribution line that were previously served by the Norfork Substation.
“NAEC strives to deliver reliable, affordable, and responsible electricity to our members. With the Norfork, Culp and Lone Rock areas having grown in recent years as far as load, this new substation gives us greater flexibility during normal operations and outage situations. We also built the substation so that it has capacity for future growth,” CEO Mel Coleman said.
The project included a 2.8-mile transmission line that connects the substation to a transmission line between the co-op’s Norfork and Pineville substations. Additional distribution lines will be built out of Galatia Substation in the following months to divide the existing distribution system.
The co-op’s Operations and Engineering employees constructed the substation in the past eight months. The transmission line was built by contractors. Galatia is NAEC’s 30th substation, with the co-op maintaining 5120 miles of line across portions of eight counties.
