India, Haryana, Gurgaon: A much-anticipated 66 kV substation is finally on track to be constructed in Sector 37, Gurgaon, aiming to significantly enhance the power infrastructure for local export businesses and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (HVPNL) had proposed this substation over two years ago, but the project was stalled due to challenges in securing suitable land. Now, with a plot finalized by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) in collaboration with HVPN, the plan has received formal approval.
Originally, HSVP had designated a 9,600-m2 (2.38-acre) site for a commercial market. However, rising electricity demands prompted HVPN to request land for a power facility. Following joint inspections, HSVP agreed to allocate one acre for the new GIS substation. The remaining 4,000 m2 (1.38 acres) will still host the proposed market, with shops to be sold through e-auction.
The state-of-the-art substation is budgeted at approximately $3 M (₹25 crore) and is expected to be fully operational by 2027, addressing critical energy needs in one of Gurgaon’s key industrial corridors.
