Taiwan, Changhua County: The offshore substation for Taipower Offshore Wind Project Phase II has been installed, marking a major step in the project’s progress.
The substation’s topside, built at PetroVietnam Shipyard in Vung Tau, Vietnam, departed in July and was lifted into place atop its jacket foundation by Shinfox Far East Energy’s installation vessel, the SFE Hercules. A launch ceremony for the structure was held last month at the shipyard.
Foxwell Energy, a subsidiary of Shinfox, is contracted by Taipower to develop and operate TPC Phase II. The project is one of 11 offshore wind farms chosen by the Taiwanese government in April 2018 under its national renewable energy development plan.
Situated about 14.7 km west of Lukang in Changhua County, the wind farm will contribute to Taiwan’s renewable energy targets. Construction of wind turbine foundations is under way, with the first jacket foundation installed in March 2025.
Once operational, TPC Phase II will provide a significant boost to Taiwan’s clean energy supply, reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The offshore substation will play a crucial role in transmitting power from the turbines to the onshore grid, enabling the delivery of reliable renewable electricity to consumers.
