USA, Texas, Waco: Oncor Electric Delivery Co. is set to expand and modernize its 25th Street and Park Lake Drive substation to support Waco’s growing energy demand. The upgrade will include new power equipment, infrastructure improvements, and enhanced site features like landscaping and a screening wall for nearby residents.
This project is part of Oncor’s broader infrastructure expansion, which has included five new or upgraded substations in Waco since 2022. The company is also building new power lines along Franklin and Washington avenues to link downtown Waco to a new substation near 26th Street and Mary Avenue.
According to Oncor spokesperson Andrew Clark, the expansion is crucial for improving reliability and keeping up with increasing demand. “This project will ensure stable power delivery as the region continues to grow,” Clark said.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas forecasts statewide peak electricity demand to exceed 150 GW by 2030, a 76 % increase from today’s levels. Oncor, which serves McLennan County and 98 other Texas counties, invested over $2 B in grid improvements last year alone.
Construction on the 25th Street substation is set to begin late this year and finish in early 2026.
