USA, New York, West Irondequoit: Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) has announced that construction will begin this month on a major substation upgrade located on Seneca Park Avenue in West Irondequoit, New York.
The project, valued at $3.3 M, is scheduled for completion by September 2025 and is aimed at improving the reliability, efficiency, and resilience of the local transmission network.
According to RG&E, the substation overhaul is necessary to meet the area’s rising electricity demand and ensure that the system is prepared for future challenges. Planned improvements include the installation of new switchgear, an upgraded AC / DC distribution system with HVAC equipment, protection and control panels for the network’s automation platform, and enhancements to disconnect switches and voltage transformers.
The utility emphasized that the upgrades will not only enhance day-to-day performance but will also strengthen the grid’s ability to respond to modern energy needs.
This initiative is part of a broader infrastructure investment strategy across RG&E’s service territory, focused on replacing and upgrading aging electrical equipment to support long-term energy reliability.
