France: RWE has commissioned five new renewable energy projects in France, adding a total of 83 MW of wind and solar capacity to its portfolio.
The new sites include four wind farms and one solar plant across Hauts-de-France, Normandy, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Construction began in 2024 following RWE’s success in the French Energy Regulatory Commission’s 2023 tenders.
In Hauts-de-France, the company built the Catillon-Fumechon wind farm 21.6 MW, six turbines, the Catésis-Bois Marronnier wind farm 29.2 MW, eight turbines, and expanded the Nouvions site with four additional turbines 19.2 MW. In Normandy, RWE commissioned the Ormesnil wind farm 9.6 MW, two turbines. Meanwhile, in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the Les Pierrières solar farm was completed with 7,420 panels delivering 4.2 MWp.
Together, these projects will generate enough green electricity to supply around 40,000 households, strengthening France’s clean energy supply.
Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, said: “The commissioning of our five new wind and solar farms within just a few weeks is testament to the capabilities of our French teams. A big thank you to the RWE team, local communities, and all partners involved. We are already preparing the next projects.”
RWE currently operates 265 MW of renewables in France and recently secured another 82 MW of onshore wind in the 2024 tenders, further boosting its role in the country’s energy transition.
