Stable Power Supply Fuels Growth of Big Data Industry in China
As demand for cloud computing and data services continues to rise, investments in power infrastructure will be essential for sustaining growth.
The State Grid Zhongwei Power Supply Company is actively expanding its 10kV substation infrastructure to accommodate the increasing electricity demands of the burgeoning big data industry in the region. With the rapid development of cloud computing and data services, there is a heightened need for a stable and reliable power supply.
Importance of Reliable Power Supply
The big data sector has stringent requirements for power stability and reliability, which are critical for the operation of data centres. Recognising this, Zhongwei has leveraged its natural advantages, including abundant electric power resources, a temperate climate with an average annual temperature of 8.8°C, and a stable geological environment to foster the growth of its data industry.
Achievements in Big Data Development
Zhongwei has achieved significant milestones by becoming a national new-type Internet exchange centre and a key hub node in the integrated computing power network. This makes it the first city in China to be designated as a “dual-centre” node, positioning it as a vital player in the national big data landscape.
The city has established seven large-scale data centres, including facilities for major companies like Amazon and Meili Cloud. This development has attracted over 220 companies from the internet and cloud computing sectors, such as Meituan and Huya Group. These companies provide essential storage and big data computing services to more than 4,000 enterprises and institutions.
Strategic Power Grid Planning
In alignment with Zhongwei’s industrial park and Western Cloud Base development initiatives, the State Grid Zhongwei Power Supply Company has initiated early-stage power grid planning. This proactive approach involves continuous optimisation of the grid structure to support the increasing load demands from the expanding cloud computing industry. Key expansions are being carried out to facilitate additional load access, ensuring that the power supply can keep pace with industry growth.
