Brazil, Belém: Statkraft, a European renewable energy producer, has inaugurated three major solar hybrid projects in Brazil, adding 340 MW of clean power to the national grid. The announcement coincided with the COP30 climate summit in Belém, where the company showcased its commitment to expanding sustainable energy generation.
The new facilities include the 76 MW Morro do Cruzeiro and 198 MW Santa Eugênia solar farms in Bahia, inaugurated by Norway’s Minister of Climate and Environment Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, Bahia governor Jerônimo Rodrigues, and Statkraft CEO Birgitte Ringstad Vartdal. A third project, the 69 MW Serrita solar farm in Pernambuco, is scheduled for commissioning later this year or early 2026.
Together, the plants represent a total investment of $227 M (NOK 2.3 B) and are expected to generate 789 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to more than Norway’s total solar output. Including associated wind power, total generation could reach 3,400 GWh per year, helping to avoid 111,000 t of CO₂ emissions annually.
“This is the green transition in practice,” said Vartdal. “These projects directly support the global goals to triple renewable energy capacity, ensure a just transition from fossil fuels, and foster local development.”
With the addition of these solar and battery installations, Statkraft Brazil’s total capacity will reach 2.3 GW. Country manager Thiago Tomazzoli emphasised that the company’s approach also prioritises social impact through local employment, training, and environmental restoration projects.
