Substation powers up Soshanguve
Early completion of the upgraded substation brings stable power and big relief to residents of Pretoria’s north.

South Africa, Pretoria: Soshanguve residents are celebrating the early completion of the Soshanguve IA substation upgrade—a long-anticipated project now delivering improved power reliability.
The refurbishment, spearheaded by Tshwane’s Energy and Electricity Department, saw the replacement of outdated infrastructure with modern 11 kV vacuum switchgear breakers. Additional upgrades included new batteries, cables, transformer overhauls, and structural extensions to support more switchgear panels. These enhancements aim to boost resilience and reduce the risk of outages.
Tshwane MMC for Utility Services, Frans Boshielo, praised the team’s efficient work: “This upgrade will significantly improve power reliability for Soshanguve Blocks BB, JJ, and FF, as well as the SPS line supplying Jukulyn.”
The City of Tshwane reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable power and thanked residents for their patience.
