India, Mumbai: Indian electric utility Tata Power plans to invest INR 1.2 trillion ($14.32 billion) into new projects in the state of Rajasthan, including the deployment of 10 GW of renewable energy capacity. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government about the proposed 10-year investment.
The capital will be allocated for developing renewable energy projects, setting up a factory for photovoltaic (PV) modules, and installing rooftop solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations. The plan also includes investments in transmission and distribution projects and the construction of a nuclear power plant.
The largest portion of the financing, around INR 750 billion, will be earmarked for installing about 6 GW of solar and 4 GW of hybrid renewable power plants across the state’s Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Jodhpur districts. The latter will also become home to a 2 GW production base for PV modules, to be established at a cost of INR 20 billion. About INR 200 billion is set aside to upgrade existing grid infrastructure facilities and reduce energy losses across the state, while INR 100 billion will go to transmission systems.
