The Netherlands: The HSI Joint Venture—comprising HSM Offshore Energy, Smulders, and Iv—has successfully positioned the Jasmund offshore substation (OSS) topside and lifted transformers for 50Hertz at HSM Offshore Energy’s Stormpolder yard in the Netherlands.

Once fully operational, the Jasmund substation will provide 300 MW of renewable energy, supplying electricity to around 260,000 homes. It will act as a vital hub connecting the Windanker wind farm, situated northeast of Rügen Island in the Baltic Sea, to the mainland power grid.

This project marks the seventh offshore substation in the Baltic Sea involving 50Hertz. The HSI consortium is managing the full scope of engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) for the substation and its supporting jacket.

The Jasmund OSS topside measures 48 x 33 x 17.5 m and weighs approximately 4,500 m t.

“HSM Offshore Energy is proud to contribute to the Baltic Sea’s offshore wind expansion. This is the first of three platforms and jackets within the HSI Joint Venture,” said Hans Leerdam, Commercial Director at HSM Offshore Energy.

Wim Vaes, Commercial Director of Smulders, highlighted the strong collaboration and ongoing jacket fabrication at their Vlissingen yard.

Fedor van Veen, Managing Director of Offshore & Energy at Iv, emphasized the project’s role in boosting offshore wind capacity and Europe’s energy transition.
