Denmark / South Korea: Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has secured a 390 MW contract for the Shinan-Ui offshore wind project in Jeollanam Province, South Korea. Under the agreement, the company will supply 26 of its V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbines.

A 20-year service contract is also included. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027, with the wind farm expected to start commercial operation in 2028.

The development is being led by Shinan-Ui Offshore Wind, a consortium comprising Hanwha Ocean, SK Eternix, Korea Midland Power Co. (KOMIPO), Future Energy Fund, and Hyundai Engineering & Construction.

Jong Hyun Son, head of Hanwha Ocean’s Eco Energy and Industrial EPC Division, said the project will mark Korea’s first utility-scale offshore wind development to fully meet global standards, including modern turbines, installation vessels, offshore transformer stations, and onshore grid connections. He added that Vestas’ technology, supported by a strong local supply chain, would play a central role in the project.

The V236-15.0 MW turbine received type certification in 2023. Since its launch, Vestas has secured over 9 GW of firm orders worldwide.

Earlier this month, Vestas also received seven turbine orders in Germany totalling 273 MW, underlining the growing global demand for its latest-generation offshore wind technology.
