Fatality after CO2 leak at Hai Long substation
There has been at least one fatality following a 20 August gas leak at the onshore substation for the 1 GW Hai Long offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

Taiwan: It has been confirmed by Hai Long Offshore Wind that there has been at least one fatality following a 20 August gas leak at the onshore substation for the 1 GW Hai Long offshore wind farm in Taiwan. Hai Long released a statement saying: “We extend our sincerest condolences to all the injured and their families, and we express our deepest sadness for the loss of life.” The company added that it will provide the necessary support to the families.
According to the company, both it and its onshore substation contractor TECO Electric & Machinery will continue to actively cooperate with the relevant authorities and judicial bodies in conducting a comprehensive investigation.
As a reminder, on 20 August, 17 workers were affected, and several hospitalised, after a suspected leak from a carbon dioxide cylinder. The details of the incident are still under investigation, but the preliminary information available cited a leak of carbon dioxide from the fire suppression system.
