USA, New York, Binghamton: A 39-year-old man from Binghamton, New York, is in critical but stable condition after being electrocuted and catching fire inside a NYSEG substation in the city’s First Ward on 6 October.
Police identified the man as Brent Fallon, who sustained severe burns while inside the fenced-in Ansco substation, an old but still active electric facility located on Charles Street near Field Street, next to the Charles Street Business Park.
According to local reports, Fallon was seen on fire inside the enclosure, prompting firefighters and paramedics to approach with extreme caution to avoid electrocution. Responders were unable to reach him until NYSEG workers cut power to the facility, allowing safe access for rescue operations.
The substation, surrounded by barbed wire fencing, remains under investigation. Police have not confirmed whether Fallon’s presence was accidental or linked to an attempt to steal copper wiring, a recurring issue at electrical sites.
Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing, and no charges or official conclusions have been released regarding the incident.
Fallon was transported to a local hospital, where he remains under medical care.
